Earlier this year I wrote a post about my favorite podcasts – I discovered the podcast world at the end of 2018 – and I’ve been addicted ever since. Truly, addicted. I wanted to update my original list with a few new favorites I have found since then.

If you’re a podcast lover, I hope you’ll be adding this to your must-listen-to list, and if you’re not yet addicted to podcasts like me then I hope you’ll give them a chance.

I know listening to other people talk for 30+ mins sounds odd, but it is so engaging. It’s been nice to find podcasts about subjects I have always enjoyed such as true crime, and now I feel like I have found a community of others that share this same interest.

Who knew?!

The other podcasts on my list, I still listen to regularly and Crime Junkie still remains my top favorite. If you’re a true crime lover you have to give them a listen. I love how they present the stories respectfully and use it more as a cautionary tale to help their listeners take something away from the story. It’s not about the sensation of the crime – although many of the stories are utterly jaw-dropping.

Here are some of my favorite podcasts I’ve discovered this year!

MY FAVORITE PODCASTS

True Crime Obsessed

Well…since we were just talking about true crime podcasts, I have to introduce you to True Crime Obsessed. If you like true crime, but want a more humorous or light outlook on it then this is the podcast for you. I know true crime and comedy don’t seem like they go well together, but this dynamic duo truly does it well.

They discuss documentaries and docuseries about true crimes and break down the crazy moments in a way that we are exactly thinking. If you need a pick-me-up break after listening to some horrific crimes then you should listen to True Crime Obsessed.

Serial

Serial focuses on one story per season (so far there have been 3 seasons total) so you really get to understand the people and the ins and outs of what the story is about. Not all of the seasons are about true crime so if that’s not your thing just skip season 1.

The first season was about the murder of an 18-year-old girl in 1999 and trying to determine if the man behind bars accused of her murder has been wrongfully convicted all of these years. Season 2 discussed the story of a young man who went AWOL and was held captive by the Taliban for 5 years. The final season highlighted the corrupt justice system in Cleveland, OH.

If you prefer in-depth stories rather than 30-45 min snippets this is the podcast for you.

TheHeirPod

TheHeirPod podcast was technically on my other list, but it has since been renamed. It was originally named On Heir but still discusses the same royal topics and news. If you are a lover of the royal family or an Anglophile like myself this is a great podcast for you to listen to. Each week the host, a royal correspondent, discusses royal news as a true inside source.

I don’t know about you, but I would much rather get my royal news and updates from someone who actually has connections with the palace, and goes on tour with the family members.

Office Ladies

Do you love The Office? I hope so! It has been one of my favorite TV shows for the last decade. Office Ladies is hosted by two main actors from the show (Pam and Angela – for those who watch the series) and they go episode by episode to reveal behind the scenes secrets that only those who filmed the show would know.

I’ve already learned so much and it has been such fun finding out special tidbits about a show I have loved for so long.

Confronting O.J. Simpson

Ok…another true-crime podcast. I told you I have an addiction!

I don’t have to introduce this story because this tragic crime is STILL one of the most infamous murders and trials in American history. The Confronting O.J. Simpson podcast is hosted by Ron Goldman’s sister, Kim, who talks about what it was like to live through the trial, to have her brother remembered for something so horrific, and gives behind the scenes information that never actually made it to trial.

Each episode she interviews someone involved with the trail from defense and prosecution lawyers,  jurors, journalists, O.J.s current lawyer, and more. Seriously, this podcast was so eye-opening and incredibly shocking. I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Be There in Five

Now for something a bit lighter, Be There in Five, is the thoughts and ramblings of an early 30-something entrepreneur. She discusses everything pop culture, the stresses of being an accidental entrepreneur, memories of sorority life, the phenomenon of Mormon mommy bloggers, and much more.

Each episode is about an hour and a half and Kate (the host) covers a lot of different topics in her episodes. They are always filled with humor, sarcasm, and the perspective of my generation so I can relate. If you’re more interested in the “talk” aspect of podcasts and not salacious stories then this is a great podcast to listen to.

Cristina YES I needed this post today! I used to be so into podcasts but I got away from them when my commute to work became shorter. So excited to look into some of these – I’m also a total true crime junkie and think I’m out of true crime netflix shows to watch lol. Thanks for the suggestions!
