If you have been living under a rock then I am sure you have no idea how big the off the shoulder trend has been this summer – sarcasm, of course. Like every fashion obsessed girl I have fallen in love with this trend, and can’t seem to get enough. If you’ve had a look at my Pinterest lately then you have probably noticed my obsession.
Off the shoulder is a perfect way to keep cool during the hot summer weather, and is coquettishly sexy by showing bare shoulders. When I wear this trend, I like to keep my earrings and necklaces minimal to keep the focus on my shoulders.
This is one of my favorite pieces I have picked up this summer as it combines my two favorite trends of the moment: gingham and off the shoulder. See how I style this ultimate summer look, and shop some similar items so you can recreate this outfit too.

Most of my off the shoulder items have been purchased from ASOS or Zara as I’m not too keen to splurge on something that I see as a trend – no matter how much I love it! I have worn this top many times this summer that I am almost too embarrassed to admit it so clearly I have gotten my money’s worth and beyond.
This off the shoulder and gingham top can easily transition from day to night, which is just my style. If you live in an ear where the summer nights tend to get cool, I will warn you that the off the shoulder design of the top makes it difficult to throw on a jacket – unless worn draped over the shoulder, which happened to be my favorite way. How do I wear it when the summer nights cools off? One night, I wore this top by the lake to watch the Swiss National Day fireworks, and a simple off white pashmina draped over my shoulders was a great addition.
You could easily wear this exact look with my favorite brand of denim shorts – you can even see in this blog post how I transitioned my denim shorts into my pre-fall wardrobe. They are worth the money, but do not provide any stretch so be cautious if you typically like a stretchier denim.
I prefer to wear gingham and off the shoulder items in simplistic ways for the ultimate summer breezy look. I would love this top paired with a white cotton skirt and mirrored sunnies or really distressed denim (this pair is currently 40% off so act fast). Here’s to hoping that summer never ends so we can soak up the sunny days and rock more of these two major trends.
I would love to know how you feel about the off the shoulder or gingham trend and how you would you wear it.
