How I Wear Color: A Fun Off the Shoulder Dress

Cristina from The Brunette Nomad, Dallas fashion blogger living in Switzerland, shows you how she wears color by styling an off the shoulder dress with Loeffler Randall heels

I feel like every girl deserves to have that one dress that makes them want to dance around, and brings you back to being a little girl twirling in your dress-up clothes with a big smile on your face. This off the shoulder dress is that for me and so I have rightfully named it my cha-cha dress, which is a fun off-the-shoulder number. I can’t get enough of off the shoulder pieces at the moment.

The bright colors, the ruffle details, and the flowy skirt are the perfect recipe for a fun look and make me feel like the dancing girl emoji.

I’m generally not one to wear too much color on a daily basis. As I’ve gotten older, I like to wear more neutral pieces with a pop of color to make the look more me. But you will never see me in head to toe in bright colors. This white off-the-shoulder dress with a fun color pattern and ruffle detail is the perfect way for me to add color without feeling like a crayon or clown-like.

Where did I find this off the shoulder dress?

Last winter, I was searching through the sales at Nordstrom Rack and came across this fun little number. When I saw it, even though it was completely the wrong season, I knew I had to have it. My mother told me I was crazy, but I couldn’t be talked out of buying this off the shoulder dress. I’m happy I wasn’t because I receive so many compliments when wearing it, and honestly didn’t expect that. Sometimes these things are the best finds, right?

This off the shoulder dress is so easy to throw on and have a complete look ready to walk out the door. You can pair this fun look with a jean jacket for a bit of texture and to keep the look casual. Adding a denim jacket is perfect when the weather is not quite right for an off the shoulder dress or you’re always cold -that’s me!

I love to pair this dress with metallic sandals as they truly go with every look, and add that unexpected element to your look. My favorite sandals are the Stuart Weitzman caesar sandals. They are discounted, but I still think they are a summer staple. Make more, Stuart Weitzman…please!

How to style this dress?

For my look, I paired this off the shoulder dress with my new favorite shoes for a pop of pink, but kept it neutral with the light pink handbag. I feel like this handbag still keeps the look wearable and adds that touch of elegance to a fun outfit.

In case you didn’t notice without the strap, this handbag is my Marc Jacobs Snapshot bag that I have raved about many times on my blog and Instagram. I just took off the removable camo strap to use it as a neutral clutch, and make it more evening or party appropriate. It is one of the most versatile bags that I own, and I could not recommend it enough. It has become pretty essential for me to have handbags with removable straps as there are so many more ways to wear it. You pay for one bag, but get many.

Why do I love this off-the-shoulder dress?

While I’m living in Switzerland, it reminds me of home. I know, silly that a dress can remind you of home. This dress makes me want a street taco, a margarita on the rocks with salt, and to listen to some live music that makes me want to dance.

No matter where I have lived in the world or have travelled, there is no place that has my heart like Texas. See you soon!
