Transition your Summer Dress into Fall

Cristina from The Brunette Nomad, Dallas fashion blogger living in Switzerland, shows you how to transition your summer dresses into Fall

Now that the season has changed, we are slowly transitioning our summer wardrobe into Fall. If you live in Europe you also have to physically pack away your summer clothes and make room for the next season (no real closets – just tiny wardrobes). It always makes me a bit sad to put away my Summer items as I love the warmer months. I love the freedom of being outside and the long summer days.

In defiance of Fall (probably the only girl who isn’t a fan of this season) and to get the most out of my summer wardrobe, I am trying to find creative ways to transition my typical “summer pieces” into this new season. In this post I am bringing new life to a summer dress, and showing you how you can transition a typical summer dresses into Fall. Especially, if you want to quickly add some Fall vibes to your wardrobe.

Sometimes the best gifts are unexpected

Last year my boyfriend’s mother was doing a closet clean out, and gave me this beautiful red silk dress that she purchased at a market in Italy. She paid next to nothing for this dress and there is no brand name, but I have gotten a lot of wear out of this unexpected silky number.

In the Summer, my favorite way to wear this dress it with a fitted jean jacket and my Stuart Weitzman sandals that I can never stop raving about. I have no idea why they are discontinued because they are so comfortable and add a touch of edginess to typically sweet and delicate summer looks.

For Fall, I started to wonder how could I get the most out of this summer dress into the new season. Like a vision, a complete look popped into my head. Those always turn out to be the best – little thought required! I paired this silk dress with my cream colored Frame sweater, and new casual white booties.

I did a previous post showing off my new favorite boots of the season, which literally were delivered 30 mins before my shoot. You could call it perfect timing.

The cashmere sweater offers not only warmth, but an element of coziness against the luxe silk and the pop of red (a major trend color this season). The white booties keep the look daytime appropriate and are surprisingly comfortable for high street shoes. I love the different textures of this look because I think it adds that something extra from an otherwise basic outfit to fashion forward.

If you want to extend the life of your summer dresses into Fall, try pairing with some booties and a light sweater. Then throw on some accessories that speak to you and add a touch of your personality. I wore some fun tassel earrings for another pop of red and a slouchy Stella bag in a muted blue tone to keep the look easy.

Would you consider transitioning a summer dress into Fall?
