Fall Essentials: Burgundy & Plaid

Dallas fashion blogger shows that burgundy and plaid are essential trends this Fall

We are well into Fall now, and inching our way closer to the Christmas season. As we find ourselves in the colder months we tend to gravitate towards deep and rich colors, and thicker textures – chunky knits, suede, and velvet. This Fall and Winter season I have been pleasantly surprised with all of the trends, and I am fully embracing it.

Don’t get me wrong as a big lover of all warm weather and Summer months, I still consider it my favorite time of year. However, this season I am having fun experimenting with the latest seasonal trends. In this post, I am showing you how I mix two major Fall essentials: burgundy and plaid.

You have definitely seen this plaid blazer from Zara in a few posts before – outfit repeater right? I paired this plaid blazer with leather leggings and styled it with a navy sweater. I have known it would be a major Fall essential in my wardrobe.

This blazer has not disappointed as I continue to find new ways to pair it with new colors, textures, and even patterns (yes, patterns). Just because plaid is considered a pattern doesn’t mean that the rest of your look has to be simple or even typical.

I have found a plaid blazer to be surprisingly versatile and adds an extra bit of interest when pairing with a pattern. Try a dress or blouse with complimenting colors or go for opposite spacing. For example, if your plaid print is quite busy then opt for a cleaner pattern with wider spacing.

If in doubt, add stripes as you can never go wrong with a classic stripe.

A major hue this season has been red/burgundy – referred to as the power color for Fall. It is definitely hard to feel shy in such a bold color. If you don’t want to rock the head to toe monochromatic bold look then pair some bright accessories like this tiny red handbag or these Topshop statement earrings that I wore with a burgundy suede skirt.

I’m still in shock that I am wearing statement earrings. I don’t think you understand how long I have worn studs and detested big earrings. I was all about the chandelier earring in late Middle School/early High School and basically haven’t worn them since.

As I get older and my outfits become simpler on a day-to-day basis, statement earrings are such an easy way to dress up a basic look and make it look like you tried…even though you didn’t. I am also loving that you can find great looking earrings at all price points. These Topshop beaded earrings are only $25 so it won’t be a big deal if next year your tastes differ.

What are your Fall essentials this year? Do you like the burgundy and plaid combination?
