Yesterday was my 27th birthday – any other June babies out there? Around my birthday, I like to reflect and look back at the lessons I’ve learned in the past year. Rather than going in depth with a few key lessons I’ve learned in the year (because I don’t think I’ve learned anything that profound or life-changing from 26 to 27) I wanted to share a few thoughts about friendship, love, work, health and so much more.

Click here to check out last year’s birthday post where I shared 3 major life lessons I learned by 26.

27 Thoughts on My 27th Birthday

– Finding a good job is hard work. It’s a job within itself.

– Investing in your skincare is something you will never regret.

– Finding your fun way to workout is the key to sticking with a fitness routine. For me, that’s dance cardio.

– Wedding planners are a necessary expense. Major props to those who can plan a wedding on their own because I sure can’t.

– Amazon Prime is 100% worth it.

– Having a close group of a few friends is so much better than a large group of acquaintances.

–  Life is too short to have people in your life that don’t make you smile.

– You’re never too old to need your parents. Mom, is it ok if I still call with questions about recipes or maintenance messages for my car?

– Birthdays make you feel really loved and special.

– Never get too busy for friends. Be sure to enjoy the small things even if it’s just helping your friend find places to take their wedding photos.

– The age-old saying of when you found the right person you just know couldn’t be truer. You realize why it never worked out with anyone else before.

– In long term, relationships pick your battles. There will be plenty of things that annoy you, like leaving clothes on the bathroom floor, but in the grand scheme of things does it really matter?

– Indulge your guilty pleasures. I’m always up for watching any of The Real Housewives.

– Be a diva with your sleep. If you need a silk pillowcase, a fan, and a diffuser to have a good nights sleep then you do that.

– Take pride in your nice things. Spend those extra few seconds stuffing your luxury handbags so they don’t lose their shape, take certain items to the dry cleaners, and go to a shoe repair place to re-sole your beloved shoes.

– Quality doesn’t necessarily equate price. You can find 100% natural fabrics at places like H&M or Zara without breaking the bank.

– Self-tanner is your best friend. Goodbye, harmful UV rays.

– Use less heat on your hair. I’ve switched from my holy grail straightener to this blowout tool from Revlon.

– Getting an accountant saves you so much stress during tax time and is worth the money.

– It is freeing to go without makeup everyday.

– Picking out your work clothes the night before saves so much time in the morning and makes getting ready stress free.

– Never snooze your alarm. If you get into that habit it’s hard to break.

– Podcasts are an amazing way to pass the time.

– Listen to your parents…even if you’re 27 because they know so much more than you and only have your best interest at heart.

– Living together before marriage was the best decision my fiance and I ever made. It was like a test run for marriage and if you can get through that then you are good.

– Having regrets is normal. Yes, you should learn from every mistake but it’s natural to look back on a few things and think why did I do that or I should have known better?

Blue light blocking glasses are a game changer if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen.

These are just a few things I’ve learned in my short 27 years. If you have any lessons you would like to share feel free to write a comment below!
