I’m never one to make New Year’s resolutions because I try to improve myself throughout the year and don’t believe in needing a new year to make a fresh start. However, I did promise myself that in 2018 I would get back into reading. I used to really enjoying getting lost in a good book, but when college rolled around I lost interest. When you have to read large textbooks on the regular for years reading loses its fun.
It only took me 4 years, but I did get back into reading! I wanted to share some of my favorite books that I have read this year. Most of these books will be psychological thrillers and mysteries because that is my absolute favorite genre to read. I really enjoy twists and turns in books and using my “detective” skills to figure out difficult endings.
Check out these books below and feel free to leave some of your favorite books in the comments below! It’s like a virtual book club.
MY FAVORITE BOOKS
The Woman in the Window: A #1 NY Times Bestseller with over 2 million copies sold. The town nut, a woman who is confined to her home imagines the lives her neighbors live from her bedroom window. However, one day she sees too much, but will anyone believe her?
The Wife Between Us: A NY Times Top 10 Bestseller. The stories of two women intertwine and what they have in common is a relationship with the same man. Are you reading the thoughts of an older woman jealous of her replacement? Are you reading about a young woman entering into a new marriage?
Behind Closed Doors: The perfect couple – a wealthy attractive lawyer and his gorgeous and loving new wife. But why does Grace not own a phone? Why does she never join the other women for lunches? Why does she never leave her husband’s side? It’s a story that teaches looks can be deceiving.
The Breakdown: Cass Anderson didn’t help the woman in the broken down car, but finds out the next day she’s been murdered. Since the crime, she has been forgetting everything from where she left her car to conversations with friends. The only thing she can’t forget is the woman she might have been able to save.
The Girl Before: Soon to be a movie directed by Ron Howard. Jane, a woman who is desperate for a fresh start after a personal tragedy, falls for an eccentric architect. She gets an eerie premonition about his house when she finds out that another woman died there. Jane becomes obsessed with who she was and her lover’s connection to the woman.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fu*k: A self-help guide and realistic approach to living a good life. The author makes the argument that improving our lives depends not on positive thinking, but on how we decide to deal with what is throw our way. Humans are imperfect and therefore life is imperfect. It’s a no-nonsense approach that alters the way you think.

So happy you enjoyed that book! If you liked Behind Closed Doors then you will definitely love my other recommendations. It’s a similar feel to the other books 🙂
I’d love to know more about what you liked about these books, but the summaries do sound quite interesting!

Thanks for your insightful comment! That is definitely a great point and I should add that to my next post about my current favorite books. In general, I loved the twist and turns throughout these books. The endings were never quite what you expected and I couldn’t help but root for the characters when they were in tough situations xoxo
I also like behind closed doors. The woman in the window is on my wish list. Some of the books that I liked this year for fiction are the perfect mother, where they found her and little fires everywhere.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I haven’t heard of the Perfect Mother but will check that out. I almost read Little Fires Everywhere so I think I will have to now 🙂
I really enjoyed this list. The last two books I’m interested in adding to my collection! I completely understand what you mean about taking a few years off before reading again. It took me a few years as well to get back into reading after college. Now I love reading and enjoyed every chance I have time to.
