It is officially November and what does that mean? Black Friday and Cyber Monday are around the corner. While I may have a love for luxury and fine things, I also love a good discount. This is my favorite time of the year to pick up those more expensive goodies and wardrobe staples I know I will live in.
I am the first to admit, that it can be easy to get sucked into the sale prices and promo codes that get thrown at you, but if you buy twice as much are you really saving money? In the last year, I’ve come up with a great plan that has helped me make the most of sales so I not only get exactly what I need, but I actually save money.
Follow the plan below to make sure you don’t get that “add-to-cart-itis” we are all guilty of during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The best time to prepare for these sales is now.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR BLACK FRIDAY SALES
NEWSLETTERS
I know many discourage signing up for newsletters as it entices you to spend throughout the year, but this is the best way to have exclusive sale access to your favorite retailers during Black Friday.
As a treat for signing up for a newsletter, stores will often give promo codes on your first purchase, early access to Black Friday sales, or special promo code to use on top of the already discounted items.
I highly recommend signing up for newsletters for your favorite retailers. For example, J.Crew is notorious for sending great coupon codes or letting you know about sales in advance.
HONEY PLUGIN
I have long been an advocate for the plugin, honey. Check out this blog post where I discuss my 6 tips for how you can afford designer handbags.
If you’re new here and wonder what is Honey, let me help you. Honey is a browser plugin that automatically searches for online promo codes and notifies you when you’re on a checkout page if any exist for that particular store. It’s a genius idea!
It saves you time from having to look around the web yourself. I’ve been using the plugin for well over a year and I love it.
CREATE A LIST
To keep you on track and to help you not get distracted by the sale prices, create a list of what you actually need. I go through my wardrobe beforehand and see if there are any basics I may be missing or need to update. I also think about the previous year and the items I wore often.
Last fall and winter I wore these Aquatlia boots nearly everyday. They go with everything and are weatherproof, but fashionable. During the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, I picked up another pair at a discount because I knew I would get a lot of wear out of them this season.
You can create this list mentally or if it helps you – write it down. Remember to STICK to your list so you don’t end up with random items in your cart just because they were on sale.
CHECK BACK HERE
Ok….so I know this sounds like shameless self-promotion and maybe it is, but let me tell you why this matters. Each year the sales seem to go live earlier and earlier. You don’t want to miss out on a great sale because you actually waited until Black Friday.
I will be sharing a round-up of the best sales to shop, the dates they go live, and any exclusive promo codes you may need. It just makes your shopping a bit easier. If that is something that sounds right up your alley be sure to check back here for all of the information you need about Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
