PHOTO DETAILS: HERMES BAG DUPE
I’ve had my eye on a preloved Hermes Picotin for the last 2 years, but the high price tag always had me hesitant to make the final purchase. Especially when a preloved bag in excellent condition is still around $4K. Is it worth the money? Would I get a lot of use out of it? Is it really a classic?
After using the dupe version I am here to say yes to all of these questions. It has far exceeded my wildest expectations and I think the Picotin will be the new “it” bag (even though it is 100% a classic).
If you’re curious about the difference between a designer dupe and a designer fake, check out my previous blog post where I go into the subtle but very important differences. This girl doesn’t support fakes but I can’t pass up a good dupe.
When looking for my Hermes Picotin dupe on Etsy I did a lot of research to find one that was not only well made—calfskin leather, feet, and excellent stitching—but also had the same details as the original. I’ve seen the original up close and have to say they look absolutely identical.
The style of the bag is a slightly slouchy bucket bag with no pockets. The structured bottom gives the bag shape so the contents of your bag don’t spill out, which can happen often with nonstructured bags. The leather bar across the opening and lock actually keeps the bag closed and makes it easy to slide back and forth when you need to get things out.
At first, I thought it was going to be incredibly annoying to move this leather strap back and forth in order to get items out of my bag, but it’s surprisingly smooth. I’ve also found the perfect amount of “openness” so I can still reach what I need without having to adjust the bag 100x a day.
After wearing this bag literally every single day since I purchased it I know I’ll be looking for another color for the fall. I hear red will be the new power color so I’m thinking of a burgundy shade. I can’t recommend the dupe version enough—whether you’re a Hermes lover or not.
Do you have any specific questions about this Picotin dupe? I’d be happy to do a follow-up blog post.
