My Newest Hermes Bag Obsession: Hermes Herbag

Ok, I have a new bag obsession — and it’s the Hermes Herbag. I’ve had this bag on my radar for a few years now, and never quite understood how to style it or felt like I would pay the price tag when most of the bag is canvas. But I hate to say it (well, my wallet hates to say it) but I get it now.

There was a Hermes price increase the other week, but I was unable to find if that included the Hermes Herbag. However, in 2023 the bag retailed between $2,825 to $3775 US depending on the leather and style.

While I am incredibly lucky to own a vintage Kelly 32, most of us likely won’t be offered a quota bag, and to be honest, I don’t like the Hermes game. I get the intention behind it, but I don’t want to play a game to purchase one bag.

The Hermes Herbag is one way to get the Kelly look without the crazy price tag & having to play the Hermes game.

It’s timeless, a more casual version of the infamous Kelly, and incredibly versatile as it’s known as the “two-in-one bag” or some even referred to it as the “Kelly Country” bag.

It has a top handle and comes with an additional strap, a clochette, and a padlock, similar to the Kelly. The main difference between the two bags is the material — a Kelly is leather and the Herbag has a canvas body with a leather top and strap. You can detach and replace the body so it can either work as a backpack or tote, hence the “two-in-one bag” name.

The bag comes in a few sizes: Herbag Zip 31 (my favorite and most wearable for daytime), Herbag Zip 39, Herbag Zip Cabine 50, and Herbag Zip 52.

It’s the type of bag I wouldn’t necessarily wear for dinner. I see it more as a grab-and-go bag for the daytime or even a travel tote. My Hermes Kelly is probably one of my most prized possessions — think Moira Rose with her infamous missing crocodile bag — but sometimes it feels too formal or ladylike for everyday looks. That is where the Hermes Herbag comes in.
