I cherish my sleep. In our fast-paced world, you can’t skimp out on those precious 8 hours if you want to be a fully functioning human being. That’s why I work hard to create a relaxing environment and have developed a consistent nighttime routine.

You may think I’m over-the-top, but good sleep is necessary.

It’s all about finding what works best for you. Do you need complete silence? Is a white noise machine a must? I’m pro white noise machine if you were wondering. If you’re someone who needs to put away their phone at night and read a good book I have a list of my favorite audiobooks (they also come in paperback) should you need a place to start.

If you want to learn more about my nighttime routine and how I create a relaxing environment to sleep in keep reading!

ESSENTIALS FOR MY NIGHTTIME ROUTINE

Silk Pillowcase

I was curious to try out a silk pillowcase after all of the hype and now I can’t go back. Not only does sleeping on a silk pillowcase feel luxurious, but it has real beauty benefits too. Silk is less absorbent than cotton so it can help keep your skincare products on your face, not your pillow, and reduces friction so fewer wrinkles and frizziness.

High Thread Count Sheets

We spend so much time in our beds and sleep is valuable so might as well make it the most luxurious space it can be right? I personally prefer 650+ thread count sheets for my bed as they are uber soft. Don’t get scared off and think you’ll need to spend a lot to get a decent sheet set.

I purchased my 700 thread count sheets at Home Goods a few years ago for around $45, and they have lasted. Here are some affordable high thread count sheet options on Kohl’s and Wayfair.

Lighting

Lighting affects so much for what we do and tells our brains whether it’s time to be up and productive or it’s time to relax. When I’m getting ready for bed I turn off my overhead lights and only use my bedside lamp. I chose a warm soft white lightbulb to help create a cozy and relaxing environment.

Diffuser & Essential Oils

I love my diffuser so much that I wish I had a travel-sized version. Before I start my nightly skincare routine I turn on my diffuser so my bedroom smells of my essentials by the time I’m ready for bed. I put in new drops every few nights because a little bit goes a long way. My favorite scents are the relaxing ones like lavender, Bergamot, and Frankincense.

White noise machine

I categorically cannot sleep without a white noise machine, and I have tested many to find just the right one. Call it Goldilocks syndrome, but I think it’s all about personal preference.

I use the Marpac Dohm Connect, which comes with an app on your phone so you can turn the device on and off or set the noise level without needing to get up. This model has a real fan inside and is small enough to hide behind a picture frame so it doesn’t ruin your decor.

TREATS FOR A TRULY RELAXING ENVIRONMENT…

Pillow Spray

I don’t use this every night, but when I need a little bit of extra help or want to feel a little more luxurious I use a pillow spray. One of my favorite scents to use in my bedroom is lavender as it’s one of those scents that instantly helps me let go and makes me think of a spa.

Spray your sheets and pillowcase right before you lay down and you will sink into the bed. One of my favorite pillow sprays be found at the drugstore and it’s under $10! The Aura Cacia Lavender Aromatherapy Mist is made up of 100% pure essential oils so it can even be used as a body mist.

Voluspa Candles

Voluspa makes my favorite candles ever and I have one somewhere in my house at all times. I call these affordable luxury candles. Where most department store candles can cost upwards of $35, Voluspa candles typically start around $16. They come in beautifully decorated tins and jars so it’s like a two-in-one – decor + candle.

My favorite scent from their range is French Cade Lavender.

Thank you for those great ideas! I really haven’t given much thought to creating that type of resting environment. I can’t wait to put some ideas into place.
