I used to be one of those people who considered listening to an audiobook not actually reading a book. Here I am almost a year after signing up for audible and I have found my new favorite way to read. As someone who loves to be productive, I don’t often find the time to sit and read an actual book anymore.

With audiobooks, I can listen to them while cleaning, going grocery shopping or when I’m on public transportation.

I personally use audible because I like their selection of audiobooks and every time they have recommended a book to me based on what I was reading previously I have loved it! I typically read thriller or suspenseful novels as I love a book that keeps me guessing. If you would like to see other audiobooks I recommend, check out this previous post where I talk about my favorite books of 2018.

THEN SHE WAS GONE

This was the most recent book I finished and the ending completely surprised me. That doesn’t happen often. The story takes place 10 years after the disappearance of Ellie, the fifteen-year-old golden girl who vanished suddenly one Saturday morning. Her mother, Laurel, has never given up on finding Ellie but finally starts to wonder if she should get on with her life after this tragic event tore her family apart. Laurel is immediately wept off her feet by a charming widowed man with a nine-year-old daughter who is the spitting image of her Ellie. This reignites Laurel’s passion for her daughter’s case to find out what really happened to Ellie.

THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS

This was a fascinating book that kept me on my toes the entire time. The story highlights desperation and the lengths people will go to in order to keep the picture perfect image alive. The book alternates between the perspectives of the two main characters – Meghan, the elegant wife, and mother who has it all, and Agatha, a pregnant woman who works part-time stocking shelves in a wealthy London suburban grocery store.

Agatha develops a fascination with the ever-chic Meghan and when she learns that Meghan is pregnant again and their due dates fall within a few days of each other, she finally gets the courage to speak to her now that they have something in common. Little does Meghan know that this small exchange she has with a grocery store employee is about to change her not-so-picture-perfect life forever.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS

I am sure you are more than familiar with this story thanks to the highly successful movie adaption of this book. Even if you have seen the movie I reccomend reading the book as there are differences and it delves deeper into the lives of the characters. Although I really enjoyed the movie – it was hilarious and a feel-good type of film.

The story is mainly centered around Rachel, an NYU economics professor, who has been invited to spend the Summer with her boyfriend’s family who she has never met in Singapore. She quickly finds out that her boyfriend Nick, a fellow NYU professor is actually from one of the wealthiest families in Asia is set to inherit his families billions. His traditional family makes it their mission to prove that Rachel could never fit in their world.

Wow, then she was gone sounds so good! I haven’t tried audio books yet; I feel like if I’m not actually reading, my mind will wander off and I’ll get distracted lol. I should give it a try and see though, thanks for sharing!
