Instagram vs Reality #2: Fashion Blogger Perspective

Instagram vs Reality #2 from a Dallas fashion blogger

Instagram is a funny thing. It started out as a visually driven social media platform where friends would post pictures of their cute animals or maybe a desk filled with books during exam time. It has now become much more commercialized and is a necessity in my industry. Instagram and fashion blogging go hand in hand. It’s a visual portfolio of my brand where businesses can decide if they want to work with me or like-minded individuals can follow along.

This is my second Instagram vs reality post. I think it’s important to remind those outside of the industry that these photos aren’t always representative of real life. They’re curated. Also, why not have a laugh at what it takes to get these pretty images that you see on your Instagram feed?

INSTAGRAM VS REALITY:

This photo was quite the ab workout. My workout for the day was definitely completed after taking these photos. I really wanted to highlight my new favorite shoe in a simple way (aren’t they so cute?!). I proceeded to lay on the floor with my legs against various walls in my living room and angling my body in different ways for that perfect shot. My windows were wide open to really let in the natural light so I am sure my neighbors thought I was insane, but as they say, do it for the gram.

I came across this home that looked like it had once been a beautiful estate so of course, that meant trespassing on someone’s property for a great Instagram shot. I kept wondering the whole time if someone was watching me from inside the house or if they would come out and yell at me to get off their property. Luckily that didn’t happen. I can’t be the first one right?

I also only wore this outfit for the shot and then went immediately home to work on my blog post. Fashion bloggers rarely stay in the outfits we shoot in for long. It’s usually just to get the right photos and then change. We do actually wear these pieces, but not always at that moment.

Another great moment where I trespassed onto someone’s property. I’m thinking this is starting to be a theme. I had originally wanted to shoot at this garden my boyfriend knew but unfortunately not enough of the flowers had bloomed to make the shot blog worthy. We came across this tree and I knew it would give those #springvibes I was looking for and it matched my shirt so it was meant to be.

It may look peaceful or serene, but just on the other side of these bushes, there was a large group of teenagers having a party and yelling. I bet they were wondering who is this crazy girl posing by a tree. Fashion blogging isn’t something that is quite understood in Switzerland yet.

This was actually taken in front of a beautiful building right off one of the busiest and most well-known streets in Zürich called Bahnhofstrasse. It goes through the heart of the city and is the main shopping area so there are always people present. Surprisingly everything was quite calm right before this photo taking session, but the moment we started it seemed like people came out of nowhere – instant activity.

Workers were in front of the building, people were coming and going, cars were parking near these steps. I would love to do a blog post about how to take pictures in public and not care because it is something you have to get used to, especially as a fashion blogger. Let me know in the comment section below if you would be interested in that.

This post goes so well with the one above where everything is quiet and calm, but the moment you start taking pictures it seems as if people all of sudden appear. It was a sunny day so of course, everyone wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather. We kept having to wait for people to be out of the frame as first a family who had clearly just gone hiking walked by then an elderly man than a group of rollerbladers. Just a day in the life of a fashion blogger.

Oh my gosh, YES, doing it for the gram!!!!! So true! It never fails that when you think you’ve found a space without people, someone always shows up. Love this fun, behind the scenes look at your shots!

Thank you! I don’t know why it happens too often! It’s like ready for pictures and then there are people. Definitely, something I have had to get used to.

Hahaha…the struggle is real! My neighbors think I’m really weird because I’m constantly having my kids take pics of me!

That’s too funny! I always wonder if people think I’m so random person that is just conceded and taking photos for myself.
