I am writing this post a few days post my first facial ever. Can you believe I am saying that? A self-proclaimed beauty junkie and lover of all things skincare has never had a facial before. I never understood the hype and price tag associated with a facial. I was fortunate enough to have fairly good skin and always felt like I could handle my skin with the products and treatments I was using at home.

Until 2 years ago when I started to experience hormonal acne in my mid 20’s – something I never thought I would be dealing with. I tried everything from changing birth control, natural remedies, supplements, and finally decided to go to a dermatologist a few months ago to really address what is going on with my skin.

I think it is really important to invest in your skincare, especially as you age, and getting a facial is just part of that. Having a trained professional go over your skincare routine, tweak what you’re using, and providing you with exactly what your skin is needing at that time is invaluable.

I believe true beauty goes much deeper than physical appearance, however, it is always nice to look after yourself.

It wasn’t until dealing with these skin issues recently that I truly understood how much having great skin really does affect your self-confidence. Since I have been using a lot of acid exfoliation and harsher acne products my aesthetician focused on calming and hydrating treatments like algae, tea tree, and pure hyaluronic acid.

Your aesthetician will begin by asking you what are your skin concerns, the products you’re using and how you are using them. I highly recommend opting for a customized facial so you can really get the treatments your skin needs at the time. You want to get your money’s worth, right?

Just a few tips:

  1. Always let your aesthetician know if you have any upcoming events to make sure they aren’t using any harsher treatments that may make your face red. Nobody wants to go to a special event with a red face.
  2. Tipping is recommended. Check out this article to learn more.
  3. Your salon will provide you with either a robe or towel wrap for your treatment. That means taking off your shirt and a bra is optional as long as it is strapless or you can lower the straps. This is because the aesthetician will massage your shoulders and may apply some products to your chest.
  4. Do not feel that you have to purchase any products at the end of your service. There will most likely be a small sales pitch about the products that were used during your facial. However, there is no need to buy any of the products.
  5. The most important tip is to RELAX! Use the time to unwind and make the most of out of the experience you paid for.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

I am hooked on facials now and have no idea how I didn’t see the benefit before, especially as such a skincare lover. I was told the base price for my facials would be anywhere from $150-160, which is definitely an investment but it is hard to put a price tag on self-confidence.

If anyone is interested I went to Eleven Wellness in Dallas. I highly recommend for anyone to try a facial even if it is just a one-time thing. It’s not only a great way to make sure you have the best skin possible but it is also a nice way to treat yourself. We all lead busy and stressful lives so I fully believe in indulging in ways to treat yourself whenever possible.

What are your thoughts on facials? Are they worth the investment or better as an occasional treat? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

I’m so happy you like them. I can already tell I am hooked too 🙂

I have never had a facial before either. I am not quite sure exactly why other than I knew one person that had it done and the first day she didn’t look so great. Nonetheless, a week later her skin was glowing! However, thanks to your post I think I am ready to schedule mine this week! Thanks for the tips. I am always up for anything relaxing 🙂

That is great! You just made my day. It can definitely depend on the treatment you get. I was lucky that we did calming and moisturizing treatments, but I would definitely give it at least a few days before any major event 🙂

I’m almost 40 and have never had a facial. I’ve always wanted one! Maybe that will be a goal Before the year’s end.

Yes! I have been thinking about getting a facial for the last week, as I am a first timer too! I have white heads around my nose and chin that I am dying to get rid of and was looking for info & recommendations. Thanks so much!

You are very welcome! I am so happy this was helpful to you. At every facial, they will do extractions and they are the professionals so they can see things even we can’t when looking in the mirror 🙂

I have often wanted to try out a facial but because of how sensitive my skin is I was worried it would be too harsh. Thanks for sharing your input!

Thanks for your comment! The great part about a customized facial is that they can tailor to your exact needs and skin type 🙂

I used to get glycolic acid peels as a teen, but it was with my dermatologist and never felt like it was a real facial. I definitely need to try a real, relaxing facial one of these days!

I completely understand! I like the blended experience of relaxing spa but with a trained professional that can still tell you what your skin needs 🙂

Thank you so much, Rachel! That comment really made my day. I fully understand the struggle of hormonal acne since I’ve been dealing with the same thing. It’s why I finally decided to invest in my skincare xoxo

So happy to hear you’re hooked on facials!! They do such great things for your skin. I used to get one every month when my skin was really acne prone to help clear it out and because its a great excuse to pamper yourself. I cut out dairy in the winter and noticed a huge difference in my skin! I only have a breakout now if I leave makeup on my face for too long.

Thanks so much for sharing Meaghan! I’ve heard of others cutting out dairy and all of the differences you can see in your skin and body afterward. It sounds so hard to do because I am a big cheese girl 🙂
