Why Am I Having Two Weddings? Bride-to-Be Chat

Dallas fashion blogger bride-to-be chat - why am I having two weddings

Why am I having two weddings? No, it’s not because I’m trying to be extravagant. This is something that I thought I wasn’t going to share with you all, but after speaking with a friend she made a good point – my blog is about my nomadic lifestyle and this represents just that.

Growing up abroad isn’t something I share enough with others as it’s always made me feel different. Simple questions like – where are you from? What High School did you go to? How did you and your fiancé meet? have never been easy ones for me to answer as there is no simple way to tell people. If you would like to hear more about my life abroad check out this post where I shared the truth about living abroad.

I should share more of this unique part of my life and I thought you all might find the reason why I am having two weddings interesting.

My fiancé and I first met in

Switzerland when we were attending the same High School and quickly became good friends. He was not interested in the typical high school drama, was a loyal friend, and had the best sarcastic sense of humor that could match my own. If you’ve seen my Instagram bio then you will know I am fluent in sarcasm. We didn’t start dating until 2010 when we graduated high school and have been together ever since. I didn’t expect that the boy I sat next to in AP calculus to become my future husband, but life has a funny way of introducing people into your world.

Many people don’t know that my fiancé

is actually from Switzerland, which is why I decided to move back after graduating from college so we could tackle his home country together. Now that we would like to live this next chapter of our lives in my hometown, Dallas, he needs a green card. My first wedding, at the end of next month, is our legal ceremony or civil ceremony so we can begin the green card process as quickly as possible. After speaking with an immigration lawyer I was told it could take 6-9 months so I’d like to get that done fast since he’s still in Switzerland, and I moved back to Dallas for work almost 2 months ago.

My second wedding is what I consider my big wedding with extended family and friends. The big ceremony with the dress, bridesmaids, catering, you name it. It won’t be until next year though. I wasn’t willing to compromise on my vision or have to plan quickly for the green card process as every little girl dreams of her wedding day. I promise to share details when I start planning my big wedding in a few months.

I will still be having a small garden ceremony for my civil wedding to make it special so if you would like me to share details of that after the day I would be happy to. If there are any other wedding details that you would like for future posts let me know in the comments below!

Thanks, Brooke! I’m slowly learning as I get older that I should be proud of the way I grew up. It’s what makes me who I am 🙂

Thank you Claire! I went back and forth with the idea of one wedding, but I decided to do it the unconventional way is ok too 🙂
