One of the latest beauty crazes of the past few years has been facial rollers. With all beauty fads, it can be hard to know is it actually worth your money? Should you add it to your beauty routine?

I purchased a rose quartz roller from BeautyBio almost 2 years ago and fell in love with the benefits of facial rolling. Is it a necessity? Absolutely not! But if you’re someone who loves skincare, wants to take care of their skin, or deals with a lot of puffiness then you’ll want to add a facial roller to your routine.

Nearly every beauty brand now sells a jade or quartz facial roller – you can even get one on Amazon for under $15. But in this case, you get what you pay for and if you’re going to be taking the time to do something great for your skin why not get a tool that will help you see those results.

The quality of the stone actually does make a difference. My BeautyBio roller is a bit pricy (included in the Sephora sale now) but the rose quartz is jewelry-grade meaning it’s incredibly high quality and always remains cold to the touch.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FACIAL ROLLING?

– Better product absorption by allowing your products to work deeper

– Lymphatic drainage massage – pushes out lymph fluid that causes inflammation and swelling (i.e. depuffs)

– Stimulates blood flow helping your skin to look brighter and firmer

– Stress relief massage – the cooling touch and massaging along the jaw or temples feel amazing

– Helps with stuffy sinuses – great for this time of year!

HOW TO USE A FACIAL ROLLER

PREP YOUR SKIN

Never use a facial roller on dry skin as it will tug at your face, which defeats the purpose of doing something great for your skin. Whether you want to use your facial roller during your morning or nighttime skincare routine, it’s best to use after you’ve applied your serum or night cream.

Tip: For an added cooling sensation keep your roller in the fridge – it’ll give you that at-home spa feeling.

MOVE UPWARDS AND OUTWARDS

To ensure you get proper lymphatic drainage there is actually a specific way to use your roller on different parts of your face (yes, I’m serious). Always roll in one direction and never back and forth.

Neck: Start at your neck or clavicle and move upwards with gentle pressure. Press and move up your neck slowly to the base of your chin. This can be a great stress-relieving massage that promotes circulation and helps with facial puffiness.

Face: Roll outwards and away from the center of your face to get that circulation going. Start on either side of your nose, lightly pushing outwards as you roll. If you press too hard, your roller could actually rupture tiny capillaries in your face leaving you with red marks.

Eye: If you have a double-sided roller, use the smaller stone (my rose quartz roller from BeautyBio has both). Roll from the inner corner outwards. The skin around your eyes is very delicate so use extra caution when using your roller here.

CLEAN YOUR ROLLER

Make sure to sanitize your roller with a gentle soap or baby shampoo under warm water before storing it. Roll it out on a towel to dry and you’re done.

I love my facial roller. It really does feel good on the skin and I use it for the absorption for my serums as well.

I love to use my rose quartz roller after wearing a face mask that tells you to work the excess serum into the skin. It helps to get the juices absorbed, plus it’s relaxing and theraputic.
