I’ll be honest with you. I don’t have any fancy schmancy dinner plans set for Valentine’s Day where I get dressed up in a beautiful lace dress and heels (it’s what I imagine for this time of year). After over 7 years with my boyfriend, Valentine’s Day tends to look a little different than it used to.
I wanted to create a casual but elevated Valentine’s Day date night outfit that I would actually wear to grab dinner at our favorite restaurant or a few cocktails post-dinner at home. This is great alternative for those who are not dress enthusiasts or want to have a casual Valentine’s Day while still looking your best.
Top//J.Crew (no longer available in stores, similar here and here) Jeans//NYDJ Blazer//Theory (cheaper alternative here) Handbag//Marc Jacobs (also love this color) Shoes//Marc Fisher (on sale here) Watch//Skagen Bracelet//Swarovski
I am a huge advocate for silk blouses, and consider them a wardrobe staple in every woman’s closet. Seriously, you need one!
But why a silk blouse you ask?
Not only are they incredibly soft, but it is the perfect way to add a touch of luxe while still remaining rather comfortable. I am always looking for those little elements to make a simple outfit more elevated. It’s the difference between being comfortable or comfortable and fabulously dressed. It is also my favorite thing to wear as a date night outfit with my boyfriend.
Now I am well aware that silk blouses do come with a higher price tag, and I think they are well worth the splurge. A good silk blouse in a neutral color can last you season after season so in terms of cost per wear…you will definitely get your money’s worth.
Another option is to wait until the big sales throughout the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday, After Christmas, and at the end of the Summer.
I purchased this off the shoulder J.Crew silk blouse in the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in August, and what a deal it was. It’s that perfect shade of bubblegum pink, which is actually quite flattering.
It acts as my pop of color in this relatively neutral look. I added my favorite black blazer (well-tailored and it’s wool so perfect for this time of year), my most flattering pair of denim, and my new block heel nude pumps (the most comfortable heels I’ve ever owned). I purchased these Marc Fisher Zala pumps for a friend’s wedding in September so I like to think that I’m breaking them in.
I couldn’t have a sweet Valentine’s Day date night outfit without adding my favorite mini bag that also acts as a clutch. I purchased this Marc Jacobs Snapshot bag last Spring, and have found that it goes with every color. Don’t let the soft pink shade fool you – it’s really a neutral. You can read about my initial thoughts on this Marc Jacobs bag here.
Pairing the tone on tone pink makes for a sweet date night outfit that is chic and easy to recreate. You should give it a try! You can opt for hues like lavender, red, or blush if that’s more your style.
What are your plans this Valentine’s Day? Casual or extravagant, I want to know so write it down in the comments below.
