I always say to take trends with a grain of salt. No one wants to be a slave to the latest trends or a carbon copy of millions. It’s more interesting to create your own unique sense of style while working in the latest trends that fit you best. Your wallet will be much happier, trust me.
Trends come and go and that is exactly the point.
I am not one to get rid of something because it is so last year. I’ve never stopped loving my Uggs (no matter how unflattering they are), and I will always wear off the shoulder tops come summer wether they are “in style” or not.
However, there is something so fun about seeing how new trends play out each season and finding ways to style them. Now that it is 2020 AND a new decade I am looking back at the top trends of 2019 that I think we need to say goodbye to.
If you are still loving and wearing these trends then, by all means, don’t just listen to me – you do you. But if you want to be fashion-forward and embrace new styles in 2020 then continue reading.
Trends to Say Goodbye to in 2020
TREND #1: TINY SUNGLASSES
I never quite got into this trend as I am loyal to my cat-eye sunnies, and probably always will be. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, right? The small sunglasses trend was first made popular by the Kardashians and gave a nod to the 90’s fashion that took over 2019. Come 2020 I have a feeling you’ll see the return of large sunglasses for 70’s inspired fashion.
Trendy for 2020:
TREND #2: MINI HANDBAGS
I am partial to mini bags. As a petite woman, they suit my frame better and have helped me minimize what I carry on a daily basis. There is no need to carry the what-if’s that you will only use once. This trend refers to those truly mini bags where you can only fit maybe one lipstick and are pretty useless. In 2020, we’ll see a return to comfort with larger clutches (think the Bottega pouch) and hobo bags.
Trendy for 2020:
TREND #3: DAD SNEAKERS
Can I say no, no, no? I am all for funky trends and playing around with new styles, but never quite understood this one. The name says it all – dad sneakers. Those chunky white sneakers that unfashionable dads wore in the ’90s. In 2019 you saw them paired with jeans, biker shorts, dresses, and more. The sneaker trend won’t go anywhere in 2020 as we return to more casual fashion, but expect the sneakers to be sleeker and less chunky.
Trendy in 2020:
TREND #4: BIKER SHORTS
Another nod to the early 90’s fashion that completely took over 2019. Biker shorts were often paired outside the gym with big t-shirts or a blazer to take it from day-to-night. This trend is firmly staying behind in 2019. Instead, you’ll see a return of leather pants and leather leggings. Yes, please!
Trendy in 2020:
TREND #5: LOGO MANIA
Gone are the days of obvious designer logos – Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, and more. In 2019, head to toe logos made for a fashion-forward outfit that you saw styled on your favorite influencers and celebrities. However, this year will take a more understated tone when it comes to designer wear.

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate that xoxo
I agree with all of these! The biker shorts are by far the worst offender though.

Thanks, Caroline! So happy you want to see the biker shorts go away too xoxo
Loved this post. Haha, yes! I could do without the tiny sunglasses but do we have to say goodbye to the dad sneakers!?

If you are rocking those dad sneakers – you do it! Happy you liked the post 🙂
Girl I hear ya on the tiny sunglasses – they serve no purpose!! haha

Right?! I never quite got them xoxo
Tiny sunglasses and tiny handbags…I don’t get either of them! (But at least the tiny sunglasses have a shot at fitting in the tiny bag.) Bring back boho style bags!

Good point! Maybe that’s why those 2 trends were hot at the same time. I think this year we will see a return of those boho 70’s looks xoxo
Yes! Enough of the logomania!

So happy you feel the same!
I love chunky trainers so hope they don’t go anywhere, but agree with the tiny sunglasses – there is not one person that they suit! I’ll stick to my RayBan aviators haha. Becca x

Thanks, Becca! I love aviators too. They are so flattering on a lot of different face shapes, and are such a classic 🙂
