I’ve been pretty vocal in the past about not loving fall, but for once I’m truly excited. Hey, it’s 2020 and nothing surprises me anymore. I’m excited to play around with this moody colors, chic coats, booties with dresses, and textures that make fall fashion so fun. I feel like I have different personalities for a colder weather wardrobe.

For me, my summer uniform is light, minimal effort, and ultra-feminine. But come fall and winter, I love deeper hues, leather skirts and jackets, and more masculine touches. Is that just me?

Even though 2020 has been quite an interesting year fashion still lives on. In this post, I wanted to share 5 fall trends I am loving this year and how you can translate these trends from the runway to real life. One of my favorite ways to help my readers!

Keep reading to see which trends I’m most excited for and ones I know you’ll love too…

FALL  TRENDS I’M LOVING FOR 2020

CARDIGANS

Surprisingly, this is one fall trend I am most excited about and is included in my fall 2020 capsule wardrobe. Think a stylish and chic take on grandpa cardigans in neutral tones – sage green, grey, oatmeal, black, white. Fall fashion is all about texture, and a cardigan is a perfect way to achieve that. Plus, it makes for a great transitional piece that you can wear right now.

To be truly fashion-forward wear a cardigan with a knit bra top underneath. However, that’s not quite my aesthetic so you’ll be seeing me pair it with floral dresses, silk camis, and just a good basic t-shirt. Can’t go wrong with the basics, right?

PREPPY CHIC

If you love classic styles, plaid, and argyle then this will one of your favorite fall trends. For all of my fellow millennials just think Gossip Girl but in 2020. With this fall trend, you can’t get enough plaid, headbands, pearls, argyle sweaters and socks, classic loafers, and more. I live in plaid blazers come fall, which you can find at all price points. I have plaid blazers from Zara to pricey Rag & Bone.

If you just want to dip your toe in this trend without going full Ivy League add a plaid hair accessory to your wardrobe. I recently picked up this plaid headband from J.Crew and it instantly makes any outfit look put together and fall appropriate. I love wearing it for Zoom calls with a t-shirt so I look like I tried – even though I’m wearing pajamas on the bottom.

70’S PRINTS

In the last several years there has been a resurgence of 70’s inspired fashion every fall, and I’m not complaining. This trend is all about earthy tones, textures like suede and shearling, moody prints, and flowy silhouettes. This look is less 70’s disco era and more Jane Birkin or Jean Shrimpton.

A suede jacket with an earthy toned floral dress is the perfect way to style this trend for 2020. If you have a suede jacket with fringe then even better. Pair some oversized round sunglasses with wide-leg jeans and a tissue-thin turtleneck for a modern take on the 70’s trend. This is the perfect fall trend for all of the boho loving girls out there.

NEUTRAL HEAD TO TOE

There is something so chic about styling an all-neutral look. You’ll be seeing a lot of all cream, camel, or oatmeal toned outfits this fall. Luckily, these are all items that you can bring out year after year.

If you love a comfortable look (and who doesn’t) then style a knit or cashmere set with a pair of white sneakers (Golden Goose are my favorite and well worth their price tag) and a camel-colored coat. You’ll look instantly fashionable, but comfortable. When styling a neutral look, try going for different shades within the same color family and different textures to add some interest.

METALLICS

I used to love styling pops of metallics with even casual looks when I first started this blog. If you’ve been following me since the beginning you’ll know I was obsessed with these Sam Edelman Perri mules in silver and wish I could find them again. You’ll be seeing a resurgence of cool metallic shades this fall, but I’m personally more of a fan of warm-toned metallics.

If metallics sounds a bit NYE to you then trying adding in this fall trend through your accessories – my favorite way to add metallics to any outfit. Pair a metallic shoe with a simple pair of jeans and a neutral sweater or style it with a statement gold bag.

So happy to hear that! I know so many people that hear the price of Golden Goose and immediately run, but they are probably some of my wost worn shoes ever.

Love cardigans too – they are my number one fall staple since they are great for layering on days that start out chilly and then warm up!
