OUTFIT DETAILS: CASHMERE SWEATER (ALSO LOVE THIS ONE) | SKINNY JEANS | PLAID BLAZER (OLD, SIMILAR) | BALLET FLATS | TOP HANDLE BAG (AFFORDABLE OPTION) | PLAID HEADBAND
We all love denim and there is no denying that it has remained a wardrobe staple for decades. I highly doubt there is one person reading this blog post that doesn’t own at least one pair of jeans. As much as we love them, there are moments where we may want to dress up our denim but still remain casual and comfortable.
I feel like this in-between is where most women struggle. I like to call it elevated casual, which is pretty much my daily fashion philosophy.
The good news: you can still wear your comfortable jeans and look presentable.
The best way to dress up your denim is to stick with classics and simple silhouettes. Classics are classic for a reason because they always work and instantly give the impression of looking chic or put together.
If you’re looking for little ways this year to get out of your loungewear in 2021, but still feel casual (let’s not go too far right?) follow my tried and true formula below to dress up denim!
HOW TO DRESS UP DENIM & STILL LOOK CASUAL
BLAZER
Every woman needs an oversized or structured blazer in their wardrobe. Long gone are the days of associating blazers with workwear or going for a corporate interview. By throwing on a blazer you instantly look chic. If you think about it, I’m just wearing a sweater and jeans, but that blazer elevates the look.
You can find quality blazers at all price points. This one is a few years old from Zara (one of my favorites I own), but I am loving this Madewell herringbone blazer and this plaid blazer.
CASHMERE SWEATER
To keep with the season, my go-to is a cashmere sweater. Most people think $$$ when you mention cashmere, and I understand. As a lover of mixing high and low price points, you can’t deny there are some items you just can’t find a more affordable alternative for.
Sales are a great time to pick up a cashmere sweater. Not only are they incredibly soft on your skin and keep you much warmer than their cotton or polyester counterparts, but the fabric looks luxe.
If you’re not wanting to invest in expensive cashmere then brands like Halogen, Everlane, or NAADAM make more affordable cashmere options.
TOP HANDLE BAG
Top handle bags remind you of those classic ladylike looks from decades past and never go out of style – they also happen to be my favorite handbag style. To create more versatility, find a top handle bag that offers a removable strap like my Dolce & Gabbana handbag. I consider it 3 handbags in one – top handle, crossbody, and shoulder.
HAIR ACCESSORIES
This part is optional in my formula, but there is nothing like a hair accessory to finish off a look. Simply putting on this plaid headband adds an extra element to my look and like I tried – but we all know I didn’t really. If headbands are not your thing consider trying a hair barrette, velvet hair bow (my other obsession), or a silk scrunchie to complete your look.

Thank you so much! Happy to help 🙂
The blog post title pulled me in because who doesn’t love to dress up their denim?! Great suggestions. Besides a top handle bag, a round, canteen-style bag also has that instant chic quality that pushes my buttons, in a good way.
