6 Transitional Wardrobe Essentials to Style This Spring

OUTFIT DETAILS: BLACK SWEATER | UTILITY JACKET (ALSO LOVE THIS ONE) | BLACK JEANS | STAUD HANDBAG (LOVE THIS ONE TOO) | FLORAL HEADBAND

It’s warm and sunny but not quite warm enough to go without a jacket. But I don’t need a thick jacket. Does that sound familiar? I’m talking about the awkward transitional weather that can be difficult be difficult to style. Spring is just around the corner so I wanted to share my 6 transitional wardrobe essentials to help you create looks as the weather warms up.

I didn’t even realize I had a formula or set list of items I swear by come pre-spring weather, but my outfits the last few weeks have pretty much rotated around these select pieces. All of these are items I own and I’m sure you’ve seen on my Instagram recently.

If you need help with styling transitional pieces this spring keep reading!

SPRING TRANSITIONAL WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

UTILITY JACKET

My ultimate transitional wardrobe essential – whether for spring or fall – is a utility jacket. It’s the perfect piece to throw on when you need that extra layer but not quite a heavier jacket. My preferred is a linen utility jacket with a tie waist to create a nice shape.

I’ve had the jacket above for 3 years and worn it countless times with everything ranging from dresses to jeans and a sweater. Truly, one of the most versatile pieces you can own in your wardrobe.

COTTON OR LINEN BLAZER

Every (yes, every) wardrobe needs at least one blazer for the colder months and one for transitional spring weather. Blazers aren’t just for the office or even for the fall anymore. In the spring find a cotton or linen blazer to give you that effortless chic vibe without the added weight.

I tend to stick to lighter shades in the warmer weather adding spring and summer touches to my look- think white, pastels, and khakis.

TRENCH COAT

Spring 2021 will be all about the trench coat! The great thing is that you can find trench coats at all price points. I purchased this sage green trench coat from Mango and have already found ways to wear it with my transitional wardrobe.

My favorite way so far has been to just throw over a pair of classic jeans and a t-shirt for running errands. I instantly look chic without even trying.

TISSUE THIN SWEATER

Think of an incredibly thin sweater similar to a long sleeve t-shirt and that’s a tissue thin sweater. For transitional weather you may not need your chunky knits or long sleeve cashmere sweaters anymore so a thin cotton sweater may become your best friend. Pair with your trench coat or utility jacket in the shade or go sans outwear on those beautiful spring days.

Select a neutral color to make sure it goes with everything in wardrobe, especially if you practice creating a capsule wardrobe.

COTTON OR SILK SCARF

We often think of scarves as only a part of your fall or winter wardrobes, but they can come in handy for that awkward spring transitional weather too. Say goodbye to your wool and cashmere counterparts and hello to silk or cotton scarves for the warmer weather.

I love to play around with florals or more cheerful colors come spring. If it’s still colder where you live this is an easy way to instantly inject spring in your wardrobe.

STRAW BAG

No warm weather wardrobe would be complete without a straw bag. Whether tote, top handle, or mini bag you cannot go wrong with styling a straw bag into your transitional wardrobe as it’s the quickest way to embrace spring. If you have a more classic and casual style pair with jeans, a t-shirt, spring blazer, and espadrilles (Castañer make my favorite espadrilles).

If you have a more feminine style then pair a utility jacket with a floral dress for the perfect spring transitional outfit.

BALLET FLATS

I have fallen back in love with ballet flats because they truly make every outfit feel put together and classic. These Kate Spade leather ballet flats come in multiple colors and are surprisingly comfortable. For those times when white sneakers just won’t and it’s not warm enough to wear sandals, a pair of ballet flats are the perfect alternative.

Select a pair of pastel ballet flats (especially sage) if you really want to be in style.

Great post as we finally are starting to transition from winter to spring and lose some of our winter layers.
