3 Tricks to Saving Money When Online Shopping

Dallas fashion blogger shares her tips and tricks for saving money when online shopping

I am definitely an avid online shopper. I just love the ease of shopping from home, away from crowds and setting filters to find exactly what I’m looking for. Online shopping is also a great way to save money on items that you would have purchased in store. Who doesn’t want to find a great deal, right?

As this is one of the busiest shopping seasons of the entire year, it can cause a lot of unneeded stress when popping into a store to find gifts for loved ones. The crowds. The long lines. The over-picked stock. Online shopping is the way to go and if you use my tips then you can also save money this season.

My Tricks for Saving Money When Online Shopping

SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER

I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but I feel this is often overlooked. Not all stores do this, but most will offer a 10% or 15% coupon code off your order just for signing up for their newsletter. This is so they can send you emails about new launches or upcoming sales.

If I really like a store then I want to be the first to know about upcoming events or flash sales anyway. Should you not want to receive further emails from the store then just unsubscribe after you make your purchase or create a separate email address just for junk mail. It takes one minute and you could save at least 10% right away.

HONEY PLUGIN

Honey is a browser extension that automatically searches for coupon codes when you’re ready to check out. If there is a coupon code out there, Honey will find it. This saves you from having to do the work yourself and inputting fake coupon codes that won’t work. If you sign up using this link you will automatically get $5 with your first purchase.

EBATES

I am obsessed with Ebates and will go out of my way to purchase through Ebates approved sites just so I can get money back. You’re probably wondering what is so special about it. Ebates is a browser plugin (also available in an app if you shop online from your phone) that provides you with cashback just for shopping online.

There are thousands of stores that offer cashback through Ebates, and during the Holidays several stores offer increased cashback offers. During Black Friday Neiman Marcus was offering 14%, which was a great time for those bigger purchases! To me, it’s like a reward for shopping online, and so far I have earned almost $300.

I’ve briefly talked about some of the tips for saving money when online shopping in previous posts, but really wanted to take the time to dedicate a specific post to these tips in case you missed it. I hope this helps you save money this season and diminishes some of that Holiday shopping stress.

This year I became an avid Ebates user. I prefer to shop online because I can’t stand shopping and going to the store. I also recently discovered Honey which is also great. I’ve found though that the Honey cash back amounts tend to be lower than Ebates. At least at the stores I tend to shop at.

That’s awesome! You are definitely right about Honey having lower cashback rates. That’s why I prefer to use it for coupons and then Ebates for cashback. Some of their cashback offers are really great 🙂
